How to Claim Virginia Lottery Prizes
Claim up to $600 or Free Plays
- Method 1 – Your local lottery retailer may be able to cash this amount if they keep large enough amounts of money in-store or they can give you a check or money order.
- Method 2 – You can claim at a customer service center or one of the prize zones. You will need to bring a government-issued photo ID and your Social Security card (or proof of SSN).
- Method 3 – Send your signed ticket to the claims address shown along with any requested information detailed on the back of the ticket..
Claim more than $600
- Method 1 – Visit your nearest customer service center or one of the prize zones in the directory below. Bring along your government-issued photo ID and Social Security card if available (or SSN).
- Method 2 – Complete the details on the back of your ticket and mail your ticket and any requested documentation to the claims address.
Note Regarding Mail: If you would like to claim your prize remotely by mailing your ticket and acoompanying documentation to the claims address we recommend it is sent via registered mail. Any risk of ticket loss remains with the player.

About Virginia Lottery
The lottery was first made legal in the state of Virginia back in 1987 when a statewide referendum would result in a resounding yes for lottery sales.
The first tickets would go on sale in the Old Dominion state on September 20, 1988. Since then over $13 billion has been raised for K-12 public education with $765 million raised in 2021 alone.
History

- 1988- The first lottery tickets are sold on September 20th 1988.
- 1993 - Virginia joins the Mega Millions multi-state lottery consortium.
- 1999 - Becomes a member of the Powerball multi-state lottery.
- 2008 - The Win for Life game is introduced.
- 2013 - Reports record-breaking sales generating more than $1.6 billion in revenue..
- 2020 - The lottery goes online offering all kinds of ticket sales including multi-state draws and online exclusives.
What Does the Virginia Lottery Fund?
Since 1999 all of the Virginia Lottery profits have been used to help K-12 public education. Since then there has been over $11 billion raised with a record-breaking $766.7 million raised in the fiscal year of 2021 alone.
