How the Mega Millions multiplier works

Every play includes a multiplier that increases any non-jackpot prize by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times. It is assigned at random when the ticket is bought, not drawn separately, and it costs nothing extra. It replaced the Megaplier add-on when the game changed in April 2025.

A multiplier is included in the $5 ticket price and assigned at random when you buy.

  1. You have 60 days upon winning the jackpot to choose your payment option. The choice is either a 30-year annuity or a lump-sum payment.
  2. The prize claim period is 180 days from the date of the live draw, after which your ticket will become void.
  3. In the event that more than one ticket matches all six numbers the jackpot total will be split evenly.
  4. Though Mega Millions tickets can be purchased in many different states, the game is not state-specific and the draw applies to all.
  5. There are various options for claiming your prize including visiting retailers, mailing claim forms and appointments at claim centers.

  1. Live drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday evening and are televised.
